Give Me This Mountain

Today I heard the story of Caleb and how at 85 he was as strong and vigorous as when he was 40.

The story of Caleb is from the bible… even if you are not religious, it is a great story with a great message that personally resonated with me and I hope it will resonate with you too.

Here is just a short extract of the story.

“So here I am today, eighty-five years old! I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then.”

Joshua 14:10-11

I want to be like Caleb. Seriously. I want to be like him. I want to fight to the end. I want to be as strong at 85 as I was at 40.

I got asked they other day, what does health mean to me? It was a fair question, after all I am in the profession of helping people get fit and healthy, so what does that really mean?

For me, health is not just about now, but about how I will function later in life. Health is about ensuring I have a good quality of life not only now, but also in the future. Health is about being 85 or older and still being able to enjoy life. Still being independent. Still being able to go on holidays, drive my car, go shopping, do the gardening… That is health…

I see so many of our older generation alive but not living.

This is really sad.

They do not have the quality of life they should have or could have had. If only they spent a little extra time taking care of their body when they were younger.

That is something I value so dearly. Helping everyday people be healthy for the long term.

It all starts with functional training. Why functional training? Because functional training will help you find balance within your body, and balance will give you freedom. Freedom to move without pain, freedom to become stronger, freedom to lose a little extra weight, freedom to wake up feeling energised and freedom to be functional when you are older.

At Adaptive Strength, that is what we do.
