“Every Rep, Every Set” is a core value and mantra here at Adaptive Strength
Let me explain…
I never know how I’m going to feel heading into any given days training session
Some days, I feel energized and ready to go.
But most days I feel the laziness is coming on when it comes time to train.
Whether I feel great or shitty, I go into the session with the mantra
“Every set. Every rep”
What I’ve found is if I go into a training session with any other mentality, I end up missing reps, sets and even leaving early
I naturally tend to let myself get very distracted. Currently, I tend to average 10 plus phone calls a day and 15-30 separate text message chats to people so my phone is a terrible distraction which previously led me all too happy to call it a day when it came to training.
For me “Every Rep, Every Set” means having focus and being present for every set and rep I complete. It doesn’t matter how much weight is on the bar but rather focusing on maximizing my technique, breathing, set up, power, or whatever the goal of the exercise is.
Basically down the littlest things
The same holds true for other aspects of my life.
When having a conversation with someone I try my best to focus on every rep, every set. This means staying present and focused on the conversation.
This can apply to everything that we do and while it’s impossible to be 100% all the time it’s the trying that counts!
Every rep, Every set simply means you’re focused and engaged in the here and now, not distracted or mentally absent.
Next time you are in for a session I encourage you to focus on every rep, every set. Training is a chance to switch off from the outside world and the never-ending rat race we endure. Be present and enjoy the company around you.
